“Hoy estaba muy tranquila y concentrada. Hice una muy buena salida en la primera y en la segunda manga de hoy y eso me sirvió para estar adelante. En la última manga me jugaba el cuarto puesto y si mantenía el tercer puesto en el que iba en la manga quedaba cuarta, pero por mala suerte trabuché y quedé sexta. Pero estoy muy contenta con este quinto puesto en la general. En cuanto al campeonato, todo ha estado muy bien. Los tres últimos días han sido muy difíciles por los roles y creo que han sido las peores condiciones en las que he navegado por la dificultad del campo. Pero en general todo ha ido de maravilla. Mi consejo para otros regatistas que aspiren a ganar es que entrenen muy duro tanto en el agua como en tierra, ¡y no rendirse nunca!”
“Today I was very quiet and concentrated. I made a really good start in the first race of the day and in the second leg, and that helped me to be in the front. In the last leg I was trying to keep my forth place and if I kept my third position in the leg I was going to end forth, but I made a mistake, I jibed and ended sixth. But I’m happy with this position number 5 in the general results. Regarding the championship, everything was fine. The last three days were the worst and I think the conditions were also difficult, It was hard to sail in the course. But in general everything has been wonderful. My advice for other sailors is to train hard in water and in land and never give up!

I sail in the sea, near where I live in Izola which is in Slovenia. I also train with SailCoach in the South of France. At home we have much bigger waves than here in Rio de la Plata, and the wind is also more stable. I don´t think I’ve learnt anything new here. But I am happy to make new friends.

Navego en el mar, cerca de donde vivo, en Izola, Eslovenia. Entreno con mi entrenador en el Sur de Francia también. En casa tenemos olas mucho más grandes que en el Río de la Plata, y el viento también es más estable.
En esta competencia creo que no aprendí nada nuevo, ¡pero sí hice nuevos amigos! Y mañana espero poder terminar entre las diez primeras.

I sail in the Adriatic Sea in the north of Italy in a place called Cervia. It is a place of light wind. My coach is Andrea Patacca and I sail with him in a club called CNAV CERVIA. Here in Buenos Aires, the current is stronger but the other things are similar, though we do not often have waves in Cervia. Yes I have learnt new things, because in the race we always learn new things. The last trace today was my best experience because I came first! Tomorrow I hope to do well & remain in the top 3 till the end of the championship.
Navego en el Mar Adriático en el Norte de Italia, en un lugar llamado Cervia. Allí hay viento leve. Mi coach se llama Andrea Petacca y entreno con él en el club CNAV CERVIA. Aquí en Buenos Aires, la corriente es más fuerte, y no hay casi olas, aunque hay otras cosas que son similares. Desde que llegué aprendí cosas nuevas, siempre se aprenden cosas nuevas en las regatas. La última prueba de hoy fue mi mejor experiencia porque llegué primero. Y mañana espero seguir haciéndolo bien y mantenerme en el top 3 hasta el fin del campeonato.

“I train in both the lake (which is called Manchanbele in Bangalore, India) as well as the sea (Chennai & Mumbai), because India has a nice variety of both. I live inland but prefer the sea. The Rio de la Plata has much higher wind & wave conditions compared to back home. What I have learnt here, racing in Buenos Aires, is that it is the small things that matter. For me, races 1,2 & 3 were the best as the conditions were similar to those back home in India. I really hope to finish in the Top 10 tomorrow.”

“I sail from the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania in Hobart, where we train on the River Derwent. I also compete in other parts of Australia, but Tasmania is my home. I n Argentina there is more choppy. In Hobart the water is blue, not brown! Also the depth of the water in Hobart is much deeper. I think I have learnt a lot from sailing here as I have had weeks of training as well as these world championships. My best experience has been sailing in the windy conditions! Tomorrow, Top 20 finishes would be nice!”

“I sail in Aegina at home in Greece, it is an island near Athens. The sea is called Mesogios. Where I do sailing are many small islands like Moni & Agistri. The main difference here is the color of the wáter, the current and the waves. I had this experience when I was first for one minute, but then the wind changed and I was last! I hope now I will be within 35 positions to pass to the Gold group.”

“I thought the course was really good, it had a good size. It was not too long or too short. In the morning, the conditions were right but in the afternoon there was heavy wind. I wasn’t sure about how I was going to end, but I did it good. About the competitors, I think they are all good. And for the next races, I’d like to have fun!”

Nahuel sailed in the yellow fleet today and he achieved a second place in the 5th race (unfortunately, he was OCS) and the first one in the 6th.
“The course was good as always. I started OCS in the first race in which I finished in the second place, I don’t know why… I think the level of competition is high, very high for few boats. Regarding the conditions, they were better than the last days. And tomorrow I’ll try to repeat the places achieved today”.
Nahuel corrió en la flota amarilla y consiguió un segundo lugar en la quinta regata del campeonato (aunque desafortunadamente, estaba pasado) y un primer lugar en la sexta regata.
“El recorrido estaba bien, como siempre. Largué pasado en la primera, en la que quedé segundo, no sé por qué…. Creo que el nivel de competencia es alto, muy alto para tan pocos barcos. The 3rd race I went really fast and I have a good sensation of the race in general. In the 1st upwind, I got a yellow flag, but I still finished first. The 4th race was not so good. There were really good conditions today – hard to go fast and you have to use a lot of technique to go over the waves. I hope I can do better tomorrow. I would hope to race well & concentrate.
La tercera regata fue realmente rápida y tengo una buena sensación de la regata en general. En el primer barlovento tuve una bandera amarilla, pero igual finalicé primera. La cuarta regata no fue tan buena. Las condiciones fueron realmente buenas hoy – difícil ir rápido y tenías que usar mucha técnica para cruzar las olas. Espero poder hacerlo mejor mañana. The 3rd race was bad because there was no wind, the 4th race was good because my start was good and wind was more than 5 knots finally. Today was better than yesterday, particularly the 4th race. The wind is still low for me. Boats make a lot of waves when they are passing, so I slow down during races. The current shifted during the day and made shifts harder. I hope for more wind tomorrow, better races & better starts.
La tercera regata fue mala porque no hubo viento, la cuarta regata estuvo bien porque mi largada fue buena y soplaron más de cinco nudos al final. Y hoy fue mejor que ayer, particularmente la última regata. El viento, sin embargo, continúa muy leve para mí. I was very unlucky today, I went to the wrong side and the second race I was OCS and go back & try hard to make up... Nothing special about the course, it was fine for these conditions. But, long for such low winds, especially the last 10 minutes, there was some pumping going on! Tomorrow I believe there is a front expected with strong winds, so I am hoping for top 5 or top 10 finishes.
Hoy tuve muy mala suerte, fui por el lado incorrecto y en la segunda regata salí pasado y debí volver a rehabilitarme. Las condiciones de navegación y la cancha fueron aceptables, pero me resultó un poco largo el recorrido debido al poco viento. Además, especialmente en los 10 últimos minutos vi a algunos bombeando. Mañana espero vientos más fuertes, así que espero salir entre los cinco o 10 primeros.

1) What did you think of the course?
It was good, it took me almost one hour. During the second race the wind was lower so it became a little bit more difficult for me, and also larger. And I was hoping cross the line because my legs started to hurt!

They were hard but then I got familiarized with them and finally I really enjoyed it.

Fue bueno, me llevó casi una hora. Durante la segunda regata el viento disminuyó y me resultó un poco más difícil, por eso también se me hizo más largo el recorrido. Además, estaba esperando llegar al final porque mis piernas empezaron a doler.

¡Estoy feliz!

How did you find the club? Do you like it?
The facilities are small for events of this magnitude but they are well attended. The care and attention of the club staff are excellent.
How was the experience of saling here? Did your kids like it? Was it hard, easy?
It´s hard for the foreigners to become accustomed to the waves, they find the port hostile for the ferrys, big botes, dirt, but nevertheless they like it and find it interesting.
What does your team expect for this competition?
The team has several expectations. For most of them it is their first International championship so they expect to get more experience. For those who has experience the focus is on the results and to finish at the top ten.

Las instalaciones quedan chicas para eventos de esta magnitud. El cuidado y la atención del personal del club son excelentes

A los extranjeros les cuesta mucho habituarse a la ola; el Puerto les resulta hostil (ferrys, cargueros, suciedad) sin embargo les resulta lindo e interesante.
¿Cuáles son las expectativas del equipo para esta competencia?
Variadas. Para la mayoría es su primera competencia internacional, por lo que la prioridad esta puesta en el aprendizaje; para los más avanzados hay un foco centrado en el resultado, poniendo como objetivo un top 10.

Sí, es la primera vez. Llegamos hace dos días.

El Club está bien por lo que he visto, pero aún no lo he visto bien.
¿Cómo fue la experiencia de navegar aquí?
Pues la verdad es que no tengo ni idea porque aún no he podido navegar aquí.
¿Qué expectativas tenés para esta competencia?
Pues yo aquí he venido a ganar, por supuesto.

Llegamos hace dos días. Esta es la primera vez que visito Argentina.

No navegamos aún.

Hacer lo mejor posible y llevarme la experiencia, ¡pero sobre todo ganar!
We are getting closer to the Mac Laren Laser 4.7 Youth World Championship and we talked to some of the competitors just to know them a little bit more and share with you the things they’ve told us.
Luli Fagnani – Argentina.
- How do you get ready for this championship?
For this event I sail in the place where the championship will be sailed every weekend. I also do exercises during the week.
- What are your expectations for these races?
I want to sail in the best way, and do everything possible in the races. The important thing is to know that I did my best.
- Is this your first world championship?
Yes, before I used to sail in Optimist. I sailed two North American Championships and a South American Optimist Championship.
- Do you have someone you admire in Laser?
Yes, since I was little I admire Cecilia Carranza Saroli

- Is this your first time sailing in Argentina? Do you like it? Why?
Yes this is my first time sailing here, I haven't actually been for a sail yet, but it looks good.
- Is this your first World Championship? If not, in which one/s have you participated?
This is my second 4.7 worlds, I also competed in San Francisco last year.
- What do you expect about this competition?
I'm really looking forward to sailing in Buenos Aires, and also having the opportunity to compete against people from all over the world.
- Do you have any “idol” in yachting? Who?
Not really…

Yes, this is my first time in Argentina, Today was my first sail and it was quite nice out there.
- Is this your first World Championship? If not, in which one/s have you participated?
This is my second World Championship but my first in the Laser class.
I represented Australia in the Optimist World Championships in Langkawi, Malaysia in 2010/11.
- What do you expect about this competition?
I expect the competition to be tough but I look forward to making friends with people from around the world.
- Do you have any “idol” in yachting? Who?
I don't really have an Idol in yachting but I admire Tom Slingsby and Ben Ainslie.

- ¿Cómo te preparás para este Mundial?
Para este mundial me preparo entrenando en donde se va a correr el campeonato todos los fines de semana y durante la semana hago actividad física.
- ¿Cuáles son tus expectativas para esta competencia?
Mis expectativas son navegar de la mejor manera en las regatas, dejar todo mi esfuerzo en la cancha y no importa el resultado sino el saber que dejé todo.
- ¿Este es tu primer campeonato mundial? Si no, ¿en cuál o cuáles participaste anteriormente?
Sí, es mi primer campeonato Mundial. Pero antes corría en optimist y corrí dos campeonatos Norteamericanos y un campeonato Sudamericano de optimist
- ¿Tenés algún referente en la náutica? ¿Quién?
Sí, tengo una referente de la náutica que es Cecilia Carranza Saroli. Desde muy chica la admiré.

Sí, es la primera vez que navego aquí. No salí a navegar demasiado, pero parece lindo.
- ¿Este es tu primer Mundial?
Es mi segundo Mundial de Laser, competí el año pasado en San Francisco.
- ¿Cuáles son tus expectativas sobre esta competencia?
Tengo ganas de navegar en Buenos Aires, y también de poder competir contra personas de otras partes del mundo.
- ¿Tenés alguien a quien admires en el yachting?
No, realmente no...

Sí, es la primera vez. Hoy fue la primera vez que navegué y fue bastante bueno.
- ¿Este es tu primer Mundial?
Es mi Segundo Mundial, pero el primero en la clase Laser. Representé a Australia en el Mundial de Optimist en Langkawy, Malasia, en 2010/2011.
- ¿Cuáles son tus expectativas sobre esta competencia?
Supongo que será difícil pero también espero poder hacer amigos de otras partes del mundo.
- ¿Tenés alguien a quien admires en el yachting?
No tengo ningún “ídolo”, pero admiro a Tom Slingsby y a Ben Ainslie.
We talked to Francisco Cosentino, the Argentinean coach of the Australian team. He told us some things about what’s going on in the backstage of this event…
- How is the training going? How many competitors are with you?
The training is going well. Step by step the conditions of the Río de la Plata are been established. The members of the team are coming every day. There are three more competitors that have to come in the next days. They all are 11 Australians, and most of them are women.
- How did you meet them?
In 2009-2010, I was the coach of the Australians for the Cadet Worlds. One of their parents recommended me to other parents for this event and that’s why they call me to train them here.
- When did they arrive? And how many have to come?
The first girls arrived on March 24th, and from that day until 27th I’ve been training with them. On the 28th five more boats arrived and tomorrow would be coming the rest of the team.
- Do you like sailing here? Is it easy/complicated?
Until now they are all happy. The girls have been sailing for more time here so they are more used to it and it’s been easy. The wave of the river is the most complicated thing until now. The rest seems to be easy.
- Which are the expectations for this World Championship?
Luckily, with the parents is all easy. Everything has been very well organized, although they didn’t come as a team. Actually, they come from different parts of Australia and now they have joined me to train as a team from Australia. The rented boats are in good conditions, the only matter is that the masts are quite soft and do not have a good quality. But the organization of everything else is going very well. And fortunately the Club made many things easy so we could train.
Hablamos con Francisco Cosentino, el coach argentino que está entrenando a los competidores de Australia. Nos contó qué está pasando en el backstage de este campeonato…
- ¿Cómo va el entrenamiento con el equipo? ¿Cuántos son?
El entrenamiento va muy bien. De a poco se van acomodando a las condiciones del Rio de la Plata. Con los días van llegando los integrantes del equipo. Por ahora faltan llegar tres más. En total somos 11 australianos de los cuales la mayoría son mujeres.
- ¿Cómo te contactaste con ellos?
En el 2009-2010, entrene a los australianos para el mundial de cadet. Uno de los padres me recomendó a los otros padres para este mundial y por ende me llamaron para entrenarlos aca.
- ¿Cuándo llegaron? ¿Cuántos más tienen que llegar aún?
Las dos primeras chicas llegaron el día 24, en el cual estuve entrenando con ellas hasta el día 27. El día 28 llegaron 5 barcos más y para mañana estaría llegando el resto del equipo.
- ¿Les gusta navegar acá? ¿Les es fácil/complicado?
Por el momento están todos contentos. Las chicas que más tiempo vienen entrenando ya están mas acostumbradas y con más facilidad. La ola del rio es lo que más les complica por el momento. El resto parece ser que se les fácil.
- ¿Cuáles son las expectativas de los australianos para este Mundial?
Por suerte con los padres es bastante fácil las cosas. Todo se organizó bastante bien, a pesar de que no vinieron como un equipo, sino que vienen de diferentes partes de Australia y recién ahora se juntaron con migo para entrenar como equipo de Australia. Los barcos alquilados por el momento están en buenas condiciones, lo único es que los palos son bastante blandos y de mala calidad. La organización por ahora de las cosas vienen muy bien. El club por suerte facilito muchas cosas para que se pudiera entrenar cómodamente.
